Narrative of the Young Shepherd

In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling fields, lived a young shepherd. His life was pure, and unsophisticated. His main role was to care for his flock of rams.
Their low murmuring and the murmuring of the wind across the lone tree on the mountaintop were his constant co-dwellers. Day upon day, watching over his responsibilities inculcated in him a sense of quiet fulfillment.
However, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. In one such instance because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome scheme.
Tales of predators preying on sheep had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy chose to leveraged this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.
One day he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance here but found nothing threatening.
The boy laughed at the confusion on their faces. This game laughed for a couple of more days. But, one morning, a real wolf actually attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to receive a scolding on honesty and the consequences of crying wolf.
The story of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once violated, is hard to earn back. It's a story as appropriate today as it was then.
